The
Peapod Playlist

Because marketers work best
when they have a great soundtrack.

Hello, friends —

One of my absolute favorite podcasts is The Ringer’s 60 Songs that Explain the 90s. A few reasons for this:

Rob Harvilla, the podcast host, is this perfect combination of a total music nerd and complete dad-joke doofus. Just my type. He’s been a rock critic for 20 years at some of my favorite analog and digital music publications—Village Voice, SPIN, and Deadspin—and he lives in the Midwest by choice (even if it is Ohio).

90s music gets a bad rap, and this podcast is a defender of it as one of the best decades for music. I’m in 100% agreement, because it was the decade I came of age—at least music-wise!

Of course, there are plenty of songs that I would have included in Rob’s list—the podcast was actually so popular that he extended to 120 songs AND the new season that’s focused on the 2000s—but I love this idea that you can know a decade in a certain number of songs.

So, I started thinking. What are the 60 songs that might explain…me? That’s this month’s Peapod Playlist. A little self-involved? Maybe. A great playlist? Obviously. You be the judge. (Oh, and there might be a few more than 60 songs. My playlists, my rules.)
